Our Story

Growing up in an Italian family, my siblings and I spent our summer days with my Nonna (grandmother) cooking delicious food from scratch including pizzas, lasagnas, manicotti, pastas, raviolis, cannoli, cakes, and cookies. Nonna, who had come to North America would always say, “The food is so good!” - and it was!

Every Sunday, my entire family, a big Italian one with aunts, uncles, and cousins, would go to my Nonna’s house for dinner. My Nonna spent hours with us playing fun card games like Briscola and Scopa using traditional Italian cards. Nonna would happily declare, “This is so much fun!” - and it was! 

My Nonna is a beautiful person! Everything she did was to help people. She taught me that helping people is bella! Bella means beautiful. 

Thanks to all the good food, family gatherings, and games we had learned, I enjoyed spending many hours playing games with my younger siblings. Through playing games, I discovered that I loved helping them learn; so, I became a teacher, a professor, and a Doctor of Education. As a college Director of Academic Success Centers and Writing Centers, I helped staff become expert, nationally certified tutors and helped students succeed in college. 

Helping people to learn and study while having fun is the most beautiful thing that education can offer.
